I have problems in measuring active/total TGF-beta by means of the classical
bioassay, based on growth inhibition of the Mv1Lu cell line. Although I know
that my samples (tumor cell conditioned medium) contain TGF-beta, they also
seem to contain something which stimulates the proliferation of Mv1Lu cells
(and also alters their morphology).
Does anyone recognise this problem ?
Does anyone know about particular factors which are mitogenic and/or
morphogenic for Mv1Lu cells ?
Is there an alternative assay which distinguishes between active and latent
TGF-beta ?
Any suggestion is wellcome !
