The other system often used is MTT which is a salt which mitochonria can
hydrolyze into a colored crystal (blue). The amount of hydrolyzed dye is
determined by ELISA plate reader. The first publication of this
technique was problematic. But several improvements have been published
over the last few years. There is even a soluble salt form which does
not neccesitate the solublization procedure.
