There is much debate, and some readers of this group have more insights
than I. However, just from the platelet point of view it appears to be
involved in the second wave of aggregation, and auto-antibodies to GPIV
(or CD36 as it is also called) may mediate different types of
thrombocytopenia.
Most studies show no gross hematopathological characteristic associated
with the NAK A- (no GPIV) trait. That doesn't mean there isn't one, just
that it isn't clear from the few patients that have presented with the
trait.
