I am a physician with an autoimmune disease looking for a better
understanding of the topic. I have several organ-specific
antibodies including islet cell, stomach, thyroid, neuromuscular
junction with a hx of neutropenia and hemolytic anemia. I believe
that I express HLA DR3 and DR4 genes and all antibodies started
as the result of a superantigen or infection several years ago.
What I want to understand is whether this process of multiple
organ system antibody production continues because of a single
event happening to my immune system ie. damage to T suppressor
cell system or if ongoing inhibition is required to keep the
process of antibody formation going. Perhaps my basic
understanding of the whole field is lacking but it seems like an
important difference for possible therapeutic options. Any
feedback or reference sources appreciated.
