I have just recently returned from a phage display meeting in
Italy where I first heard of the patent on phage display. Being
relatively new to phage display I was amazed that such a patent could
have been filed. I don't know too much about it but a guy called Rob
Ladner from Protein Engineering Corp. was there and he told us that they
want to licence it widely at "reasonable cost". Not sure what that means
exactly. There was some mention of the patent covering stuff done before
the Smith 1985 paper but again details were fuzzy. I think the patent may
cover only some aspect of peptide display, but once again, no details.
Perhaps someone could provide some details.
