Thanks for the excellent review on HIV/AIDS. I'm a bacteriologist, not a
virologist, and appreciated the info. A few questions I have which may
or may not have been covered in your note are:
- In the early 1990s there was a few notes on the epidemiology of
HIV/AIDS and how it was similar to hepatitis. Would the fecal/oral route
explain the epidemiological differences of HIV/AIDS in Africa vs North America?
- In Discover magazine, Nov. 1990, page 22, there's a note how
herpes viruses can block growth-factors due to competition on the receptors.
By chance years ago I came across an article (lost the reference) on how
sleep deprevation patients have symptoms similar to the initial stages of
AIDS. Is HIV blocking nocturnal hormones (would explain recent findings of
positive effects of melatonin.
