Anne,
I have heard, from an Allergist/Immunologist, that there has been
positive results when treating asthma patients with regular
gammaglobulin infusions. There hasn't been must research done yet, and
he believes the insurance companies wouldn't like it either. They don't
understand much about why it works either. There are several causes for
asthma, allergic and non-allergic. It seems that IVIG is helping those
patients with non-allergic asthma. I wonder if the non-allergic asthma
"might" be an auto-immune disease, and that might be the link with the
positive results using IVIG.
I have Common Variable Immunedeficiency and get IVIG every month. I
know of another patient who has both CVID and asthma, and IVIG has
helped her quite a bit in both controlling the infections and her
asthma.
So, I think we still have to wait and see.
