If you are wanting to quantitate the cytokines, then Immunoassay is probably
the most desireable. Quantitative PCR is not as straight forward and to get
meanigful data you would have to perform quantitative RT-PCR on the mRNA's
for the cytokines which would introduce an entirely different set of
kinetics regarding stability, 1/2 life etc for these RNA's. It is far
better to measure the cytokines themselves. Amersham, R&D systems and
Genzyme, to name but three, have very good cytokine assays available.
