Greetings, Alan!

I guess, that micro-organisms are not used in the production of EPO
because they are not able to glycosylate the protein. Glycosylation is 
important for the bilogical activity. At our university, transgenic
animals (mice, rabbits & cows) carrying the EPO-gene have been 
produced. If I remember correctly, the first EPO-trasgenic animals
(sheep) were produced in Scotland.
