Great response, Justin!
I don't think that a lack of demonstrable antibodies precludes
an immunological mechanism of CNS and peripheral destruction.
I think the time has come for empirical treatment, and patiently
wait for the molecular biology and immunology to catch up.
I am consulting on this interesting case and will keep you
appraised of progress. It is not unlike the pathogenesis
we see in AIDS, silicone implant disease, diabetes,
arthritis, psoriasis, etc. The fundamental
gammaglutamyltransferase enzyme system is being ying-yanged
by foreign molecules or proteins, or endogenous proteins
that have lost "self" character sufficiently to upset the
elegant and efficient immunological system of biofeedback.
Keep a good thought. We're working on it.
Good luck and good hunting,
Charlie
