This is just a guess but me thinks that its empirical. You can't really
convert you can just compare. For instance we've used cetus il-2 for
some time now and we use 100U/ml as a standard for 2-4d cultures of human
lyc's. But I wouldn't have any idea if 100U of our stock would give a
similar response to 100U of another batch I would just run an assay and
compare.
