In response to Rick Schuman,
You suggested reading papers by Dr. Mark Levine. I found an abstract
of one that was very interesting. The abstract was labeled "Vitamin C-
Immune Cell Antidote?" The results were obtained with neutrophils which
are immune cells circulating in the blood. I believe similar results
would be obtained with macrophages, which are the immune cells in tissues,
but that is obviously much harder to measure. Since his results were done
in vitro, he did not have to contend with the problem that Vitamin C
gradually disappears from plasma. To maintain an adequate level of
Vitamin C in plasma, one needs to ingest Vitamin C several (three or
four) times a day. This defenestrates the present RDA for Vitamin C.
