Two Postdoctoral Positions Available

Applications are invited from experienced protein crystallographers
and/or individuals from immunological labs with biophysical interests
for multiple projects.

Two projects involve developing immunotherapeutics based on crystal
structures that we have determined of class I MHC molecule/peptide
complexes. Join our young collaborative group's efforts to develop
therapeutics for breast and ovarian cancer and hepatitis C. We have had
excellent preliminary success. One of our compounds is entering a Phase
I clinical trial for breast cancer in the next few months.

The crystallographic projects range from determining Molecular
Replacement structures of single peptide class I MHC complexes to new
structures of molecular chaperones and bacterial signal transduction
proteins. All of the purification schemes are developed and we have
excellent technical assistance to produce and help isolate these
proteins.

We have state-of-the-art crystallographic facilities within a core
facility and access to synchrotron beam time. We are also using other
biophysical techniques such as Surface Plasmon Resonance, Fluorimetry,
Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy, Analytical Centrifugation, Mass
Spectrometry and Calorimetry. State-of-the-art equipment for all these
techniques is available. The equipment is located within a small group
of core facilities. These facilities all have Ph.D. level managers who
train and assist users of the equipment.

Many of the projects are collaborative with members of the Department of
Microbiology and Immunology at the University of North Carolina and/or
other Universities. Salaries are competitive. Support is derived from
the NIH, Department of Defense and the March of Dimes. We offer a
friendly and intellectually challenging environment.
