F. Frank LeFever questioned references. Dr. Mark Levine's work has been
reported in a variety of sources but most notably in the PNAS in December
1997. He found that neutrophils in vitro absorbed Vitamin C when attacking
bacteria. There has been many recent reports on finding Chlamydia
Pneumoniae involved in artery disease. This would most likely have
originated from a respiratory infection. Work on this is being done by
the CDC EID group. There was an article "A New Germ Theory" in the
February 1999 issue of the Atlantic Monthly talking mainly about the
work of Dr. Paul Ewald at Amherst. One reference which I read, but now
can't locate, theorized that macrophages brought the infection from
the lungs to the heart arteries via the blood. If I find that reference,
I'll let you know.
