Automated ELISA System or Separate Components?

I anticipate a need to do some exploratory/early discovery ELISAs. In YOUR
opinion, would I be better off with one of the canned automated ELISA units
on the market (and which ones, if any), or should I go ahead and order
separate plate washer, pipetting system, plate reader etc? (If the latter
is true, I'd like to know if there are better washers than the Bio-Teks).

Thank you for your assistance,
