Right, CD68 is expressed generally in all cells of the monocytic
lineage. It's expressed INTRAcellularly, so you have to permeabilize
cells for staining in flow cytometry.
For Macrophages presumably the Macrophage-mannose receptor is a good
marker. It is not expressed on monocytes but can be detected after 4
days culture in teflon bags with GM-CSF.
It can also be detected on cultured dendritic cells generated with
GM-CSF and IL-6. It has been clustered as CD206 recently.
