Yes, dendritic cells do migrate. Here's a quote from my book "How the Immune
System Works" by Lauren Sompayrac. (I love this book!) The book recites,
"When TNF, secreted by battling macrophages, binds to receptors on the
surface of the dendritic cell, phagocytosis ceases, and the CD leaves the
tissues and migrates through the lymphatic system to the nearest lymph
node."
The journey is the DC's way of presenting antigen to the helper T cells.
Apparently, DC's eat all the time. But TNF will make them show what they
ate. Fortunately, the helper T cells don't get grossed out when looking at
the goodies the DC's ate.
