BACKGROUND
Organisational Environment:
The Department of Microbiology has several highly successful research
groups in the fields of molecular virology, bacterial pathogenesis and
molecular parasitology. As part of the School of Biomedical Sciences and
the Monash Research Cluster for Biomedicine, the Department is part of a
rapidly expanding node of research excellence and has access to the
latest technology in biomedical research, including imaging facilities,
and all aspects of DNA technology and structural biology.

DUTY STATEMENT
Primary Purpose of Position:
An experienced experimental immunologist wishing to conduct high quality
research in a group working on novel recombinant hepatitis B surface
antigen virus-like particles for the delivery of foreign viral epitopes
derived from hepatitis C virus.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Selection criteria for position of Research Officer - Immunologist
Essential:
PhD in Immunology or a closely related area.
Expertise in one or more of the areas of immunology as documented by
publications.
Experience in CTL assays, Elispot, cell culture, and animal handling
skills.
Ability to work independently with organisational skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to interact with
colleagues, staff and students in an amicable and collegiate manner.
Highly desirable:
Molecular cloning skills, recombinant vaccinia virus protection assays,
experience with dendritic cells, experience with FACscan analysis.
Appropriate postdoctoral research experience.
Knowledge of quality control requirements and experience in working
under a tightly regulated laboratory environment.
Meticulous laboratory practice and attention to detail. Experience in
handling of biological specimens and infectious agents, and
understanding of basic laboratory safety (such as radiation and chemical
toxicity)
Experience in the presentation of research findings to colleagues at
International meetings.
Experience in the supervision of junior research staff/technical staff /
postgraduate / honours students.
