I am recruiting Scientists (Project Leaders, Managers, Sr Scientists) for a
client in Toronto. This client is a rapidly growing biotechnology company
involved in the discovery of small molecule therapeutic agents targeting a
physiologically important class of enzymes called cytochrome P450s. Their
initial drug discovery efforts are focused on dermatology and oncology.

This client is located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada but is preparing for a
relocation to new and expanded facilities in Toronto, Ontario, Canada by the
fall of 2002.

Here are the position titles and descriptions:

Project Leader, Dermatology
Technology Development Leaders
Scientist, Inflammatory Diseases Group
Research Technicians/Research Associates

Project Leader, Dermatology
You will lead a team contributing to the development of novel therapeutics
in dermatology with particular emphasis on vitamin D and vitamin A metabolic
pathways. In addition, you will provide strategies for pre-clinical testing
of proprietary drugs using in vitro assays. You will be responsible for the
development of functional assays and testing of drugs with emphasis on
efficacy, toxicity and drug metabolism. Candidates for this position may be
appointed as Scientist, Senior Scientist or Manager depending on experiences
and qualifications. Biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience is
preferable.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline, strong communication
skills, supervisory experiences or demonstrated potential, and demonstrated
ability to work independently. Must have solid organizational skills. Must
have experiences with drug screening assays or in vitro enzyme activity
assays.
Experiences in two (2) or more of the following areas is also required:
retinoic acid or retinoids, vitamin D or calcitriol
ADME, drug discovery in dermatology, skin cell biology (especially cell
differentiation, proliferation or apoptosis)

Technology Development Leaders
Candidates for these positions may be appointed as Scientists, Senior
Scientists or Managers depending on experiences and qualifications. Must
have a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline, strong communication skills,
supervisory experiences or demonstrated potential, and demonstrated ability
to work independently. Must have the ability to interact constructively
within a team environment and solid organizational skills. Must have
demonstrated expertise and a desire to continuously seek, implement and
optimize leading edge technologies in one or more of the following
disciplines:
Molecular biology, Cell biology, In vitro drug screening assays

Scientist, Inflammatory Diseases Group
We are seeking a scientist candidate to work in our Inflammatory Diseases
group. You will participate in an effort to assess novel drugs for the
treatment of dermatology and inflammatory diseases. You will participate in
the development of novel therapeutics in dermatology and inflammatory
diseases. This may include: pre-clinical testing of proprietary drugs using
in vitro assays and the development of functional assays profiling gene
expression in normal and diseased tissues; expressing and isolating the
products of identified genes of interest interpreting scientific validity of
results; collaborating with other scientists and research associates and
keeping current with areas of expertise including literature and technology
development. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in
immunology or dermatology and 0-5 years of relevant experience. A solid
understanding of basic immunology and familiarity with autoimmune and
inflammatory processes is essential. Expertise in immunological techniques
such as ELISA, FACS, FISH, IHC and western blots are required.
Experience in DNA microarray technology, recombinant protein expression,
and/or animal models are highly desirable.
The ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team-oriented
environment is a must. Computer proficiency, a good publication record, and
excellent verbal/written communication skills are also necessary.
Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry and previous
supervisory experiences are assets.

Research Technicians and Research Associates
Candidates for these positions may be appointed as Research Technicians
(B.Sc.) or Research Associates (B.Sc. with 2 years related experience or
M.Sc.). You will be responsible for mastering fields of technical expertise
to support Project and Technology Development teams. Qualifications:
Demonstrated potential to work in teams. Strong organizational skills and
attention to detail. Previous experiences with one or more of the following
fields or technologies: gene cloning, insect and mammalian expression
systems (transient and stable), RT-PCR, Northern blot analysis, in-situ
hybridization or immunochemistry
RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, real time PCR, RT-PCR, Northern blot analysis
tissue culture techniques, cell based assays, cell proliferation,
differentiation or apoptosis Immunology techniques including western blots,
ELISAs, immunoprecipitations and flow cytometry immunology and antibody
production enzymology: biochemical characterization of enzyme activity
HPLC or MS Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is an
asset.
