Senior Immunologist - Durham, NC


I am seeking a Senior Immunologist for a venture capital-backed
immunotherapy company located in Durham, N.C

SCOPE:
This person is responsible for leading a scientific team of a specific
discipline through all preclinical scientific research, investigating
feasibility, planning and executing strategy, managing to a budget,
hiring and managing employees, and serving as an in-house and outside
scientific consultant in their specialty. This position reports to the
Director of Immunology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for initiating, directing, and executing all preclinical
scientific research strategies for the department.
• Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of
scientific principles and concepts to potential products.
• Plans and executes laboratory research.
• Maintains broad knowledge of state of the art principles and
theories.
• Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences.
• Serves as in house and outside consultant in their scientific
discipline.
• May act as spokesperson on corporate research and advise top
management.
• Participates in development of patent applications.
• Responsible for the management and professional development of the
research group.
• Collaborates with various departments.
• Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of
company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative
and efficient ways.
• Monitors and evaluates completion of tasks and projects.
• Interacts with senior management or executive levels and scientific
advisors on matters concerning functional area.
• Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• PhD in scientific discipline with 5+ years of industry experience in
immunology.
• Experience working with dendritic cells and CTL (Cytotoxic T
lymphocytes) is very highly desired.
• Must be able to work on extremely complex problems, exercise
independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation
of criteria.
• Must have demonstrated technical proficiency, scientific creativity,
collaboration with others and independent thought.
• Expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts.
• Must demonstrate the ability to change the thinking of or gain
acceptance of others in sensitive situations.
• Reputation as an emerging leader in their field.
• Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills,
initiative, attention to detail, and analytical problem solving.

COMPENSATION: 
The position is budgeted for up to $95K annually plus great benefits.
Relocation assistance is provided.
