cycloheximide conc

Dear all,
I have been trying to use cycloheximide to inhibit
protein synthesis in stably transfected Hek293 cells. 
>From literature, people use 2-20ug/ml cycloheximide. 
I tried 0.2-20ug/ml and my cells died after 8 hrs
incubation in 1-20ug/ml.  At lower conc, there is no
inhibition.  
Does anyone know why and if I can try other
inhibitors?
