My wife and daughter have experienced a number of neurological problems
and I am interested in information that might be of help in the diagnosis
and treatment of their problems.

My wife (41) has been diagnosed with probable MS for the past ten years
due to transient problems with numbness and weakness in various parts
of her body. In addition, last year she developed a retro torticollis
that still persists. The MS diagnosis was based on her symptoms and
evoke potential test results which indicate latent response times in the
optic nerve.

My daughter (14) experienced dizziness earlier this year and then extreme
leg weakness to the point where she could not walk and was hospitilized.
She did respond to steroid treatments and within several weeks she
recovered. However, within the past few weeks she had a relapse and
was again treated with steroids.

Both wife and daugther show similar results with regards to evoke potential
tests of the optic nerves. Both have had MRIs and spinal fluid tests which
are negative for MS.

The interesting genetic aspect is that my wife's maternal grandmother's
branch of the family is rampant with Parkinsons. Going back 4 generations
all family members in this branch that lived to old age exhibited symptoms
of Parkinsons. As family members state, "We just figured we'd all grow
old and shake".

If you might have information regarding similar situations I would greatly
appreciate your input. We do have excellent doctors working on the problem
but it is a fairly unique situation.
