Current wisdom is that people recover most in the first 3 months. That
doesnt mean that if no therapy was available within that first 3 months
that a person cannot improve after that time. The natural recovery and
healing of the body occurs primarily in the first 3 months and then
typically recovery slows down but still occurs.
I would recommend therapy even it is after 3 months. The treatment team
will evaluate whether the individual is making progress and benefiting
from therapy. It is not uncommon for people to be involved in therapy for
1-2 years after a stroke.
