There is an ALS (a spinal cord disease) listserver run by a guy called Bob
Broedel. His e-mail address is

broedel at geomag.gly.fsu.edu

I am sure he will be able to tell you how to subcribe to the list. It is
written for lay people, and quite informative at that level.
