Epilepsy Advice wanted

I am a 24 year old female and last year I was diagnosed epileptic on the
basis of an abnormal EEG after having a grand mal in hospital. For me the
most upseting prospect was that I could not have children for the next 18
months while my body got used to the medication. I deperately want to have
kids but I was told that the risk of birth defects on anti-convulsants was
3% as opposed to 1% normal risk. Is this true? A gynaecologist happily
told me that he had epileptic patients with normal children, in fact one
woman had three normal children, but I am worried and would appreciate some
advice as I get quite depressed at times over this.
