Does anyone have any information as to what determines whether a neuron
will habituate to a repeated stimulus or become sensitized to it?
So far as I can see, it just depends on the nature of the stimulus (i.e.,
neutral/pleasurable vs. aversive). Is there more to it? Do different
structures mediate the different actions, or can any neuron do either?
Are there specific neurotransmittors associated with either, in terms of
excitation/inhibition? Is it some sort of threshold effect or something?
Any information/speculation would be helpful & appreciated.
