The Centro per la Diffusione della Cultura Scientifica" (Centre for the
Diffusion of Scientific Culture), University of Cassino (Italy), is
engaging in a no-profit project, called "Alter Ego. Drug and the Brain" on
divulging scientific knowledge about drug addiction and drug abuse.
We want to make prevention without moralism. We are trying to give, as
much as possible, an objective information on the historical and scientific
facts related to psychotropic agents, just to permit to the people more
conscious and rational choice and behavior in the face of drugs. We have
already realized and exihbition and two new films on drugs and drug
addiction. The exihbition has the same name of the project, Alter Ego, and
it is divided into three parts:
1) origins of street drugs and history of use and abuse of psychotropic
drugs;
2) brain: structure and function. This part shows the anatomy and the
physiology of the brain, putting in evidence particularly the mechanism of
the brain where the drugs act;
3) psychotropic drugs: effects, mechanism of action, toxicity and medical
complication deriving from abuse.
The exhibition is free and itinerant and we land it or part of it to
anyone (organization, commission, institute, an so on, even foreign) who
wants to use it to make prevention of drug addiction.
The exhibition contains 83 back-lighted maxi-slides (30x30cm), 20 panels
with text, 4 films playing on 4 15" monitors, 1 multivision on big screen
(7x2,5mt.). The materials is mounted on big grey wood panels (2,60x1,20
mt.). The exhibition needs at least 130 square meters.
Alter Ego has benn already visited by 120.000 people in occasion of his
first exit, last november in Naples. Alter Ego are opening in Florence, at
"Covitto statale dell'Anata", Poggio Imperiale, 27 march-27 april (monday
to saturday, 9-13). -------------- You are invited! --------------------!
At present we are looking for materials to realize a new film on street
drugs, showing the amplification of toxicity produced by diluting natural
psychoactive agents with other substances, the medical problems connected
to the contamination of street drug due to the complete absence of hygiene
in illegal laboratories, and finally the harmfulness of the most common
synthetic and designer drugs.
