As far as I know, the incidence of hypertension in
African-Americans relative to Whites is about 2:1 in the United
States. Assuming this to be roughly accurate, does the number
of strokes seen in African-Americans approximate a 2:1 ratio
relative to Whites? I am just curious. I know that hypertension is not the
sole risk factor for stroke, but, a very significant one. Does
anyone know of any papers which might yield some information?
Having lost a parent to hypertension, I am very interested in
the topic. Although I wrote my senior thesis in underaduate
school on hypertension, my paper did not touch on strokes too
much. Any responses would be appreciated.
