I do agree with the fact that we are a complex of neural network, governed
by the secretion and inhibition of chemicals (transmitters and receptor interaction).
Besides, it has been postulated that from the onset of gestation, chemicals called
trophic factors are being released to guide and signal compatable neurons.
Furthermore, once connected, growth factors are then activated and the formation
of the neural network begins. Hence, one can justifiably conquer with the
assumption that the concepts of "love," "hate," "anger," "fear," and any other
related feelings (that have been named) are therefore generated by chemical reactions.
It is a well known and accepted fact that fear is a behavior or a condition that
is learned. Hate is also learned; why not love?
Seretonin, dopamine, and acethylcholine are all involved in the pleasure generating
sensation that we enjoy everytime we are pleased by some stimuly. The limbic system
has also be postulated to be the center of pleasure generating neurotransmitters in the
brain. Drug addicts (cocaine, which is believed to block the reuptake
of dopamine, produces a rush that is followed by a depressed-craving-sensation)
associate their addiction to cocaine as a love-hate relationship. They
love the rush, but they hate the craving. Yet, they keep using the drug
even though they know the consequences that supercede.
Is the love they speak of the same love that we feel when we are with someone
that gives us pleasure; why do we persue a hopeless relationship with someone
that have, in many occasions, demonstrated an evasive behavior toward us?.
Well, can we correlate that same pattern with the addict! Or are we going
to classify that behavior as being different, in order to seperate the good
guys from the bad guys. Well I believe that the chemicals are quite related.
-at the site of action and mechanism. The only real difference between
being in love and being addicted is that with the latter, life is sometimes
out of control; the only thing that matters is another fix. Even then, history
have demonstrated how out of control one can become when one is in love....
Take a look at the news! We live the proof everyday...
