Hello,
I would like some information please from some person who has
experience with vestibular disorders. I know of a patient who had a sudden
onset of vertigo associated with nausea. The patient had been complianing
that same day of severe tinnitus. It is known that the patient has had a
past history with tinnitus and apparently it was extremely severe on the day
the vertigo began. The patient also has been diagnosed with a mild
sensorineural hearing loss in the upper frequency range (2-4kHz). My
question is, considering that some forms of tinnitus may be related to vascular
disorders within the brainstem, is it possible that the symtoms above
suggest that a small vascular accident has occured. This is no perceptual
indication of facial muscle weakness. The attending ER physician made the
initial diagnoses of Meniere's Disease after taking down the patients symptoms
and noting nystagmus with the eyes open. The attending prescribed meclizine
hydrocloride at 25mg per for the condition. Do these symptoms fit with the
attending diagnosis or should other avenues be explored with regard to
etiology.
The patient in question is my mom, and I am concerned. Thanks for the info.
