I just started Cajal's "Recollections of My Life" which you may find
interesting vis a vis the beginnings of the field. It's published by
the MIT Press (second printing, 1991) and the ISBN number is 0-262-68060-2
--Since I just started reading it, I can't say much about it. You can
order it from MIT Press or special-order from a bookstore --it was
around $18 or $19.
Good luck!
