The closest thing I know of is using Talairach (stereotaxic) coordinates,
and is outlined in
  N.C. Andreasen, "Automated Atlas-based dissection of human brain from
  MR Images", Proceedings of the Society of Magnetic Resonance, 2nd
  Meeting (San Francisco, 1994), volume 1, page 57.
