ketamine/xylazine + reflexes

A question about cat anaesthesia. We induce with
ketamine/xylazine 15mg/kg and 1mg/kg respectively i.m.
We then move to pentobarbitone i.v. or to halothane.

Previously, we induced with ketamine alone, and were able to use the
eye blink and paw withdrawal reflexes to check depth of anaesthesia.

Since we introduced xylazine, we do not seem to have these reflexes at
all, even when other signs indicate a light plane.

Does anyone have experience with xylazine and standard reflexes, tens
of minutes or hours after administration ?

Yours, Daniel.
