Cardiologist suffers cardiac arrest, treats himself.
A cardiologist of repute Dr. R.B.Sirselewala, M.D., D.M. was discussing
some of his colleagues in his private hospital about the publication
of a new medical journal on the night of 28th February, 1995.
At 42 years, he excercised regularly and had excellent health and
perhaps unlimited energy for his work as well as social activities.
Suddenly during the dicussion, he experienced chest pain and
immediately asked his hospital staff to conduct V3 and other tests
which showed cariac arrest. He immediately prescribed the drugs and
the treatment to be given to him and requested to summon two fellow
cardiologists immediately.
By the time they arrived within 10-15 mins, he lost conciousness but
they managed to revive his heart. He was shifted to the ICCU of The
Bombay Hospital and put on a respirator.
After 22 days he is in a state of coma, but otherwise in a stable
condition with normal B.P. and breathing normally without respirator.
He is also sensitive to touch and has shown eye movements and under
sedation.
I am moved by the incident as I had been introduced to him at a social
gathering organised by a close associate and was impressed by his
medical and technical knowledge, but yet it all proved useless for
his own self.
Today most of our organs can be transplanted including the heart but
as far as the brain is concerned, medical science has made little
headway in understanding the working of the most powerful computer
the Human Brain.
Perhaps in a few years medical science would be able to extend it
progess and at enable the knowledge and information in a brain to
be temporarily transferred to a piece of silicon and restore it
back when the physical aspects are normalised.
Well wishers of Dr. Sirselewala are still very optimistic of his
regaining conciousness. If you know of any such case where
recovery was acheived or can throw some light on the subject, or
can suggest any form of further treatment, it would save a few
souls from despair.
- A well wisher.
