You should do what floats your boat. I went back for Neuromuscular
Fellowship and took an 80% cut and we made it. It was only for a year
though. All our residents moonlight. I think some of them make more than
the faculty. I also think they give up some education in the process.
Our place increasingly pays its own housestaff to moonlight in the ER. We
have good Neurology, good Psychiatry and good Child Neuro. As you know,
combined programs have always been 2+2. I suspect you would only have to
do 2 years of Neuro, plus whatever amt of medicine would make the
bureaucrats happy. You could probably even negotiate to do 1 yr of adult
and 1 yr of peds. Let me know if I can help further.
