Tegretol usually takes 5-6 days to reach a steady state in the blood 
stream. Alternately can take up to 1 week to clear the body after last 
dosage. Teg is one of the first line drugs used w/Trigeminal neurlagia, I
If he is on it long term - Liver function tests, CBC and platelet cts are 
in order as well as a trough (before dose - ie 12hrs) Teg level. Klonopin 
is another option which works well. Same monitoring applies except drug 
level. Teg is also used in severe shingles outbreaks as well. 

The resident 'anticonvulsant" database due to child's seizure disorder 
(he has trialed most all!)	Cheers Kim Mayson 

P.S. Cherly ...Yes I am up at 1:00 am - but went to bed at 4pm! Just eating 
and then back to my comfy bed!
