I have tried pressure injecting a small volume (0.2-0.4
microlitres) of the new tracer 3000MW Texas Red Dextran (Molecular Bio
Probes) into central auditory system nuclei of the rat. 1%, 2% and 5%
w/v solutions in 0.9% saline or distilled water were injected.
Injections were made with animals under anesthesia induced by sodium
pentobarbitol. All of the animals suffered seizures and died four to eight hours post injection.
Has anyone experienced similar problems or does anyone have any
information on whether or not this tracer is potentially toxic to
animals. I would appreciate hearing from you, Thanks in advance.
