I came across some additional material on neuromelanin which you 
might find of some interest (see below).  It's actually more 
interesting from the point of view of the book that I found it in, 
which is a slick California style New Age publication on the subject 
of consciousness.  There is a lot of material about quantum physics 
and its supposed relationship to human consciousness, but surprisingly 
none at all about the standard biological research (Crick, Edelman).  
Nor does it mention philosophers like Dennet or Block.
