Dear Bill: I have all the research you could want. In fact, Mark Gold
just did 250 pages worth and emailed it to me. Showed all the ways they
went out of their way not to pick up methanol damage, all the statements
from the Congressional Record. But everything is put together so its
easy to understand. Because its so lengthy I won't forward it to you
unless you request it, and then I think we probably have 30 or 40 pages
we can email of case histories taken off the net.
As Mark explains about some of the original tests. They measure methanol
levels at the wrong time. Sometimes they measure it after 24 hours when
they very well know that it would have all been converted to formaldehyde
and formic acid or eliminated through the breath or urine.
A more devious trick they use is to use a testing procedure that can
only measure hugh spikes in the plasma methanol levels. The test they
use was designed in 1969 and probably outdated even then. When
environmental researchers test for methanol levels in the blood from
environmental exposure, they use tests that reach levels 15 times lower
than what NutraSweet researchers used.
If you read the Congressional Record, the part that carries the protest
of the National Soft Drink Assn., you find they used the wrong test that
would not even pick up aspartic acid when the right one was available,
the wrong solution, didn't test for breakdown products (a witches brew -
even the phenylalanine breaks down into DKP, a brain tumor agent) and
didn't test for temperature elevation (at 86 degrees aspartame liberates
methanol in the can).
I have rooms of documentation. Dr. Roberts report on brain tumors has
been pre-reviewed (Does Aspartame Cause Human Brain Cancer? Journal of
Advancement in Medicine, Volume 4, Number 4, Winter 1991). Dr. Walton
tried to do a study on humans and NutraSweet would not even sell him the
aspartame - they knew what would happen. (Adverse REactions to Aspartame:
Double-Blind Challenge in Patients from a Vulnerable Pop ulation, Society
of Biological Psychiatry (1993). Dr. Walton had to stop the study because
the patients complained of being poisoned. He said some started bleeding
from their eyes and got retinal detachments. The methanol converts to
formaldehyde in the retina!
Dr. Louis Elsas, (Professor of Pediatrics at Emory) told Congress on
November 3, 1987:
" I have spent 25 years in the biomedical sciences trying to prevent
mental retardation and birth defects caused by excess phenylalanine. And
therein lies my basic concern, that aspartame is in fact a well-known
neurotoxin and teratogen which, in some as yet undefined dose, will both
reversibly in the adult and irreversibly in the developing child or fetal
brain, produce adverse effects. Aspartame is increasing in our world
food supply without, I feel, appropriate prior investigation of its
adverse effects on human brain function or appropriate surveillance at
the present time."
He went on to tell how phenylalanine concentrates in the placenta and
causes mental retardation. OB doctors in Chicago told a friend they warn
all pregnant women off aspartame but some won't listen and give birth to
babies with brain tumors, and some of the little babies have strokes".
In the meantime, the NutraSweet Company tells you it is safe for pregnant
women. It is absolutely criminal.
The National Child Development Assn. called me and said learning
difficulties in this country are at 50%. I sent them a packet and they
said they made 10,000 copies and sent it to all their offices.
Dr. Walton Monte (Aspartame: Methanol and the Public Health - Journal of
Applied Nutrition, Volume 36, Number 1, 1984) really goes into the
effects on the eyes in detail and also quotes Dr. Wurtman. He says: "Dr.
Richard Wurtman, Professor of Neuroendocrine Regulation at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, presented data to the FDA
demonstrating that in humans the feeding of a carbohydrate with aspartame
significantly enhances aspartame's positive effect on plasma and brain
phenylalanine and tyrosine levels (48 Federal Register at 31379). There
are sound scientific reasons to believe that increasing the brain levels
of these large neutral amino acids could affect the synthesis of
neurotransmitters and in turn affect bodily functions controlled by the
autonomic nervous system (e.g. blood pressure). The proven ability of
aspartame to inhibit the glucose-induced release of serotonin within the
brain may also affect behaviors, such as satiety and sleep."
Dr. Monte says further: "Methanol has no therapeutic properties and is
considered only as a toxicant. The ingestion of two teaspoonfuls is
considered lethal in humans."
Now if you were to call the NutraSweet Company and tell them you know
about the methanol they will tell you there is more methanol in oranges.
Yet they, of course, know better. Dr. Monte explains it well: "Ethanol,
the classic antidote for methanol toxicity, is found in natural food
sources of methanol at concentrations 5 to 500,000 times that of the
toxin. Ethanol inhibits metabolism of methanol and allows the body time
for clearance of the toxin through the lungs and kidneys." Now you know
that they know that but this is their excuse and the FDA gives you the same
information.
If you're interested in the research done by a neurologist you can
contact Dr. Russell Blaylock, neurosurgeon in California. He wrote
EXCITOTOXINS; THE TASTE THAT KILLS and says on the back cover that: "The
ingredients in NutraSweet literally stimulate the neurons of the brain to
death causing brain damage of varying degrees." He also says that
NutraSweet triggers diabetes! Its quite a technical book and you can get
it from Health Press 1 800-643-2665.
You have to remember in lab animals that aspartame caused brain tumors -
and malignant mammary tumors and ovarian tumors - and a host of other things.
All these young kids living on Diet Coke and getting brain tumors is
terrible. A woman called me last night who works in a hospice about this
because you understand why there were so many. She also wondered why
women, age 30!!!!! are getting Alzheimers.
Dr. Roberts (diabetic specialist - but also member of the American
Academy of Neurology) said when aspartame was put on the market that he
noticed a difference in his diabetic patients and MS patients - they
presented with memory loss and confusion and severe vision problems.
Dr. Roberts has done 30 years research in Alzheimers and just published a
book about his research called DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMERS DISEASE ( 1
800- 814-9800). He came to Atlanta for a seminar on this and explained
how the two amino acids in aspartame that are neurotoxic (phenylalanine
and aspartic acid) without the other amino acids in protein go past the
blood brain barrier and deteriorate the neurons of the brain. You know
this is the cause of Alzheimers which is a 20th century disease! There
are now 4 million victims in the U.S. and its now the 4th leading cause
of death in adults. There are 250,000 new cases each year and 100,000
deaths!
Bill, I would get rid of your diet drinks! NutraSweet is a chemical
poison and in the book Prescription for Healing by Bach its listed under
C for just that!
Also Dr. Harry Waisman did a study for Searle on the effects of aspartame
on primates (Monsanto bought Searle in l985). Seven infant monkeys were
fed the chemical in milk. One died after 300 days, 5 other had Grand Mal
seizures. Searle deleted these findings when they submitted his study to
the FDA! The best way to understand NutraSweet is to think of it as a
minute dose of nerve gas that eradicates brain and nerve functions!
They just kept sacrificing monkeys and then they realized that methanol
is a human specific poison so they started using rats! In the Bressler
Study when some of the rats died Searle resurrected them back on paper.
This is the reason that Merrill of the FDA asked U.S. Sam Skinner to
indict Searle. Instead he went to work for Sidley & Austin, Searle's law
firm that was defending the case, as did the U.S. Attorney after him
(Conlon). This is the greatest scandal in U.S. History if you had time
to read all the facts. They knew this was poison!!!!
Dr. William Pardridge (University of California at Los Angeles) and Dr.
Wurtman testified before a Senate Committee on the Labor and Human
Resources, urging that labeling requirements for Aspartame be amended to
include quantity. Children might suffer brain damage from excessive
intake of aspartame. Aspartame consumed at the same time as
carbohydrates would have double the effect on the brain as aspartame alone!
Talking about scandal, don't bother to call Dr. Wurtman at MIT - he
changed sides and became a consultant for NutraSweet! He testified in
1985 when NutraSweet was in maybe 300 or 400 products. There was
testimony in l987 when it was probably in 600 products. Joyce Wilson was
there pleading they take this off the market so that others would not go
blind from it like herself. Her husband Richard wrote in April, l994 in
a local Atlanta paper:
"Aspartame killed my wife. No words can express the agony and horror
sweet Joyce endured. This poison destroyed her brain, ravaged all her
organs and blinded her. She died at age 46 in 1991. ....The makers of
this poison considered her death an acceptable cost of business. I'm a
man without a wife because the NutraSweet Company is a business without a
conscience."
When Joyce died she had the symptoms of MS which in reality was methanol
toxicity mimicing MS (which started out this whole discussion). And she
was just like an Alzheimer's patient with no memory. But as long as she
could speak and think she tried to warn the world. We dedicated a day to
Joyce when we exposed the American Diabetic Assn. for taking money from
Monsanto and endorsing this for diabetics when it is hazardous to their
health - and they know it. Would could be any worse than wood alcohol
for a diabetic? Dr. Roberts has been a member of the ADA for almost 40
years and they even refused to publish his abstract of 650 diabetic
aspartame reactors. It was published in Clinical Research Vol. 36, No.
3, 1988 489 A
I explained to Suzanne Laird, the lady who works for the hospice the
symptoms of methanol toxicity, and what we are seeing in the general public.
Loss of equilibrium, vision loss, confusion, headaches, vertigo,
dizziness, joint pain, fatigue, insomnia, depression, etc. Her reply was:
"But I have all those symptoms and no one has been able to tell me why.
Now doctors think I have MS?" As the conversation wore on she explained
she had 6 friends under the age of 29 who were Diet Coke drinkers who
have been diagnosed with MS!!!!!!!! I would give up your Diet Pepsi!
I assure you when we get these women off NutraSweet within two or three
months all their symptoms will disappear. I do it constantly. I have
her number if you don't believe and would like to talk to her!!!!!!
There are so many seizures today from aspartame that a Worldwide Pilot
Hotline has been set up just to take the complaints. Over 700 pilots
have already called, many of them because of having grand mal seizures in
the cockpits of commercial airliners! Some complain of the vision
problems caused by aspartame. Dr. Monte in his paper discussed how it
causes tunnel vision. You may remember that the American Airliner that
fell out of the sky in December was due to pilot error - tunnel vision.
Did all those people die because the pilot was drinking diet soda?
Dr. James B. Hays (Brownwood, Texas) (Clinical Experience with Aspartame)
has taken care of some of the pilots who have seizures. And he writes:
"Aspartame is a significant hazard to transportation safety. Various
physicians in the Federal Aviation Administration are aware of this
situation, but they are bureaucratically linked to the Food and Drug
Administration who have the charge to approve food additives and drugs. ....
In summary, ten case histories were reviewed with various neurological
and other symptoms other than headaches. A simple clinical test to
establish Aspartame as the cause of suspect symptoms is proposed."
Why doesn't the FAA help us. Because Sam Skinner who did not indict
Searle became Secretary of Transportation over the FAA!!!! Mission
Possible flies packets around the world to Air Traffic Controls to warn
the pilots. It's pretty bad when consumers have to do the work that
Government should be doing.
Dr. Roberts and I attended the Conference of the American College of
Physicians and one neurology professor said: "Please someone tell us
where all these seizures are coming from." I told them and then another
physician, a pilot said he even knew a friend who flew commercially who
keeps having grand mal seizures in the cockpits and he felt he should be
reported.
I'll be glad to forward you more information if you want it and the
warning flyer we distribute worldwide. We are a volunteer force in 50
states sending a worldwide alert to the world. Dr. James Bowen told the
FDA this was mass poisoning of the American people and more than 70
countries of the world (now 90) - and many of them also pleading for help.
When there were congressional hearings aspartame was only in a few hundred
products but now its in 5000 products and climbing!
