I am looking for any information on the rare disease, Landau-Kleffner syndrome. The major symptom is the
cessation of linguistic development at around age 2. It is often misdiagnosed as autism. It can usually be
diagnosed with an EEG examination, but in some cases the EEG is normal. Dr. Gerry Stefanatos, director
of the Center for Clinical and Developmental Neurophysiology at Thomas Jefferson University in
Philedelphia recently developed a series of test that can diagnose Landau-Kleffner in the rare cases when a
standard EEG cannot. LK can be treated with steroids.
