I think it's more like "to troll", as in trolling for fish, but on Usenet
it's trolling for flames, i.e. looking to pick a fight.

Some people have an EEG rhythm called mu, which is similar in frequency to
alpha.  However, it differs in morphology, location, and reactivity. The
alpha waves that we usually hear about originate over visual cortex and
react to eye opening (opening the eyes suppresses them); this is often
explained as being a "resting rhythm" for visual cortex.  The mu rhythm is
seen over somatosensory cortex, and can be suppressed by INTENDING to move
the contralateral arm.
