Smoking, caffeine, alcohol and cocaine can have long term deleterious
health effects on the user, but little is known about the long term
consequences of these social drugs taken during pregnancy on the
developing offspring. Applications are invited for a Post Doctoral
Fellow funded by the Australian Research Council to work on the impact
of these drugs on the development of biological rhythms in an animal
model.
You should have
A PhD
An interest in the effects of drugs on brain function; an interest in
circadian rhythms would be of advantage.
Experience in immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridisation, or receptor in
vitro autoradiography of neurotransmitters and their receptors would be
a definite advantage.
The ability to work as part of a team and be enthusiastic and self
motivated.
Selection criteria
1) A PhD from a University recognised by the University of Adelaide.
2) The candidate must have at least 2 scientific publications
(published or accepted for publication) in the last 2 years, based
predominantly on his/her own PhD research or Postdoctoral research.
3) Demonstrated experience in immunocytochemistry, in situ
hybridisation or receptor autoradiography.
4) Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable Characteristics
1) Knowledge of the concepts underlying circadian rhythm research and
experience with the experimental tools used in this research
2) Willingness to work as part of a team.
The position is available for 12 months in the first instance with
extension to a total of 3 years upon satisfactory performance. Further
