I am going to throw a monkey-wrench into this thread, so I apologize
in advance. I do not believe that there is any such condition as
"tarsal tunnel syndrome", at least in the same sense as "carpal tunnel
syndrome", which is real and often responds to surgery (I do such
surgery). I have seen many cases of "tarsal tunnel syndrome", usually
after they were operated upon, and, in my experience, those who were
operated did not get significantly better (and many got worse).

Carpal tunnel syndrome can be diagnosed and confirmed by electrical
studies (nerve conduction tests), but there is no reliable way to do
this in tarsal tunnel cases. There may indeed be a syndrome where the
nerve is being compressed by plantar or other fascia, but I do not
believe that surgery is a reliable answer.

Best,

Bob
