Might well be able to in susceptible groups.  Surely you've seen
people so focused on a TV they fail to respond to outside
stimuli, like calling their name while standing next to them, looks
like well on the way to induction of first stage hypnosis to me.

Why?  Hypnosis isn't mind control, I'll bet the most common
effect would be the hypnotized subjects would doze off for a
while and not remember the commercial on awakening,
having your audience sleep through your pitch and then not
remember it doesn't seem very desirable.
