Housekeeping genes for denervated neurons

Please help. I need to find a housekeeping gene to use as a control for
gene expression in a Northern blot, but many of the usual housekeeping
genes may not be any use. I'm looking at expression in denervated
neurons, which are known to have a reduced cellular RNA content,
increased mitochondrial number and altered profiles of Kreb's cycle
enzymes. What housekeeping genes can I use that won't have altered
expression patterns in denervated neurons? I am trying the 28S rRNA
gene but am concerned that it may have altered expression. I welcome
any suggestions.
