For years I've quoted the following (on many occaisions) in cyber forums
in support of governmental authority and the notion of governments being
responsible for upholding the golden rule:
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there
is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Yet to my surprise I can only think of 1 person over the years who
related that to the old "Divine Rights of Kings" doctrine (which is a
valid point btw). And you're talking about people fooling themselves,
hell man, folks who surf the net all day have become so ignorant that
they're doing good if they have enough knowlegde to fool themselves.
At any rate, you might think that the Apostle Paul in penning such a
concept on authority in Romans chapter 13, would strictly adhere to such
a thing wouldn't you? Especially if your stuck in "Divine Rights of
Kings" mode as Euroman often is. But he didn't in light of the freedom
of choice with respect to defense of his life. Simply put, he, like
Jesus, escaped from authorities who were trying to kill him because his
time to die had not yet come.
2Corinthians 11:32-33 "In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king
kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend
me: And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and
escaped his hands."
In other words Paul, like Jesus, gave his life when the time came and
not one minute before.
2Timothy 4:6-7 "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my
departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my
course, I have kept the faith":
Here's Jesus...
John 10:17-18 "Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my
life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay
it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take
it again. This commandment have I received of my Father." - Jesus
However, it's obvious to me that you're more than willing to let
politicians decide political things without being challenged by freedom
thinking religious individuals, in order to fulfill their "Divine
Rights" which you hope will squelch the voice of freedom. Meanwhile,
you run the risk of forfeiting the power of the inheritance and the
associated faith which is meted out by the Authorizer, who is sitting on
the power side of the Throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the
shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
