Killed for Driving 72 in a 60 mph zone
by Michael A. Hoffman II
For driving 72 miles per hour (mph) in a 60 mph zone, Donald W.
Matthews, a 61-year-old former steelworker, was killed by police in
Massillon, Ohio. From "The Beacon Journal," August 11, 2002:
"The group is particularly incensed about traffic laws and doesn't
believe a state trooper has the authority to stop a vehicle or demand to
see a driver's license. 'The police have become the standing army of our
country...
On Aug. 9, "...perhaps after teaching his last class, Matthews drove
south on state Route 21 past woods and farms. He saw the flashing lights
in his rearview mirror. A trooper clocked him doing 72 mph in a 60 mph
zone. He wasn't wearing a seat belt, either. He refused to give his
license." (End quote)
Matthews, a Marine veteran with no criminal record, was shot to death by
the modern American equivalent of the old British highwayman, who
demands at gunpoint that we "cross his palm with the coin of the realm"
(in the form of traffic "fines" for benefit of executive and judiciary
crime lords at county and state level). In the state of Washington, the
highwaymen have even erected billboards with the brazen notice,
"Click-it or Ticket" ($88 fine for failing to fasten seat belts). Some
readers will have no patience with Constitutionalists who "quibble" over
such matters when we have "infinitely bigger fish to fry." Au contraire,
a man like Matthews is the canary in the mine. If America is lethal for
freedom seekers, it is only safe for slaves.
The America of our new King George is fraught with double-minds and
grave tension. Last week I traveled to the University of Oregon to do
research and to interview philosopher John Zerzan, author of the new
book "Running on Empty" (Los Angeles: Feral House, 2002). Zerzan has for
years been compiling indices of social breakdown beneath the smiling
facade of flag-waving America: statistics on road rage, child
abductions, workplace shootings etc. According to him, these tragedies
are increasing exponentially.
From a correspondent in Palm Beach, Florida: "...times are getting very
taut. The anger around here is unbelievable. Particularly traffic. Rage
abounds." In America we see that since 9/11, for the first time in the
history of the world, the exploited peasant class is actually fond of
their tyrannical king and his princes. At the same time, they can't
understand why they feel so miserable, as they navigate their tiny,
aging cars through traffic-choked roads, pursued by monster SUVs and
highwaymen demanding their driver's licenses or their lives.
Today I saw a family of conservative Judeo-Christians walk into Wal-Mart
in a kind of ecstatic rapture. They even waved joyously at the store's
surveillance cameras. Many such goyim identify the robber baron Wal-Mart
corporation, which is partnered with the slave pens of Red China, with
the Bible, Mom and Apple pie. This particular family sauntered unfazed
past a poster advertising the Wal-Mart debut of a 'Dixie Chicks' CD
celebrating adultery and "mattress dancing."
When Ezra Pound was released from St. Elizabeth's Insane Asylum in
Washington, D.C,. after 12 years' incarceration, he was asked prior to
his nearly immediate departure for Italy, what it was like to live in a
madhouse for that long. Pound turned his hawk-like eyes on the reporter
and replied, "You should know. All of America is an insane asylum." If
you don't believe old Ez, just try fighting for mass transit against
Detroit's CEOs, or driving without a seatbelt, or going 72 in a 60 mph
zone.
