I have perfromed RACE experiments which identify sequences that lie
within an a very large intron that separates exons 3 and 4 of the gene I
am studying. The RACE fragments contain no ORFs. One possiblity is
that the fragments represent UTRs of splice variants. However, I was
wondering whether there any examples in mammals in which the genetic
structure of unrelated genes overlap, ie use different strands over the
same region to encode a protein. I know viruses do this quite alot but
am not aware that mammals make use of this strategy.
