I understand that the stuff I've been discussing is 'Difficult', and even a bit 'frightening'.
It seems that the thing for me to do, now, is to 'back-off', a bit, to give folks opportunity to 'chew-on', and 'digest' it.
So, here, I'll discuss why the stuff is 'Difficult', and a bit 'frightening' - why folks experience it in that way.
It has to do with the fact that I've broached 'taboo'-stuff - stuff to which nervous systems tend, strongly, automatically to 'blind' themselves to, for no 'reason' other than to 'make-ends-meet' in terms of TD E/I-minimization.
You see, regardless of the experiential-environment in which one exists, there's always 'coerced-consensus' stuff in-there, and, if one is to function 'appropriately', within one's experiential-environment, one 'must' 'accept' that experiential-environment's 'coerced-consensus' stuff, and, more or less, incorporate that stuff within one's repetoire of behavioral manifestations, sans 'questioning'.
Group-wise TD E/I-minimization functions as 'enforcer' with respect to such 'coerced-consensus' stuff.
If one 'transgresses' the 'coerced-consensus' stuff, doing so 'blindly' and automatically elevates TD E/I within the nervous systems of other 'group' members, and this induces the others to 'move away from' the one who 'transgresses' the 'coerced-consensus' stuff inherent within the group's 'shared' experiential-environment.
During the course of learning within the experiential environment [during the course of accumulating "biological mass" [accumulating microscopic trophic modifications] with respect to it], nervous systems' TD E/I-minimization dynamics automatically 'blind' 'consciousness' to the 'coersiveness' of the experiential-environment's 'consensus' stuff, 'simply' be-'cause' doing so aligns TD E/I-minimization with the 'rules' and 'regulations' that've come to be tacitly 'agreed-upon' within the group's shared experiential-environment, which, via subsequent TD E/I-minimization, enables group members to 'judge' the 'appropriateness' of their own, and other group members', behavioral manifestations, to 'hypothesize' with respect to 'creative' behavioral-'proposals', and to 'estimate' the 'consequences' of behavioral manifestations.
The result is that there comes to exist an illusion of 'causality', in terms of TD E/I-minimization that's experienced - in terms of the experiential environment's WDB2T local minima, which have been converged-upon during the course of group-wise experience.
Even though the 'causality' derives only in experientially-defined TD E/I-minimization, and, so, is illusory, within the correlated experiential-environment, 'challenges' to such 'causality' are, nevertheless, 'taboo'.
This is the stuff of the "Hard problem" that I discussed in another post recently, with respect to which, it's flat-out Difficult to find a hearing, and why it's so.
When one 'breaks a taboo', one can, literally, See the "supersystem-configuration" [AoK, Ap5] 'switch' being-thrown, in-there, and the 'blindly'-automated 'moving away from' becoming initialized. One can literally See the "volitional diminishing-returns decision threshold" [AoK, Ap7], having been reached, and the 'choosing' to 'move away from' "rendering useless" [AoK, Ap 8] of the "biological mass" [AoK, Ap5] that was constructed during prior experience within the group's shared experiential-environment.
These 'enforcement' dynamics occur in complete absence of Reason-Founded-In-Truth, occuring, instead, in more or less 'rigorous' accord with 'blindly'-automated TD E/I-minimization that occurs only as a function of accumulated-experience within the shared experiential-environment.
Yet the TD E/I-minimized dynamics are experienced ['perceived'] as 'constituting-truth', and affect [emotion] is, 'blindly' and automatically, aligned accordingly.
I experienced a couple of useful examples recently, one sweetly-gentle, one terribly-violent, but, importantly, both are the Same-Stuff.
The 'gentle' case was written about in a recent issue of the Reader's Digest [sorry, I can't find the issue just now. I think it was the July or August, 2002, issue.] It was with respect to a little Girl who was adopted from a 'foreign' Nation, by American Parents. One day, while on an outing [to purchase shoes(?)], the little Girl was noticably 'upset', it turned out, because of the way her American Mother had 'pointed her foot' at the little Girl, as a consequence of the very-'normal' American thing of having crossed her legs as the Mother sat. In the experiential-environment in which little Girl had existed prior to being adopted, the foot is a 'lowly' body part, and it's 'taboo' to 'point-one's-foot' at another. The little Girl's 'being-upset' behavior 'enforced' the 'taboo' that was defined solely in terms of the TD E/I-minimization she experienced with respect to "biological mass" that she'd accumulated within her prior experiential-environment.
I experienced the terribly-violent case while viewing "Primetime Thursday", on ABC TV, last night. A woman had been accused of adultury, and her 'husband' had used his barber's razor to gouge-out her eyes, cut off her nose and cut off her ears, leaving her to die. The woman survived. The "husband's" behavior 'enforced' the 'taboo' that was defined solely in terms of the TD E/I-minimization he experienced with respect to "biological mass" that he'd accumulated within his experiential-environment.
Absent an understanding of how nervous systems process-information via 'blindly-automated TD E/I-minimization, TD E/I-minimization is always, simultaneously, as Innocent, and as Horrendous, as these two examples, taken together.
The absence of understanding with respect to how, and why, all-such-stuff is founded only in experientially-defined TD E/I-minimization is the wellspring of "man's inhumanity to man" - that which has Ravaged 'humanity' since the beginning.
In other recent posts, I used examples of the Same-Stuff that [Forgive me, Please] were deliberately calculated to 'transgress' 'taboos' with respect to Psychiatric and Academic experiential-environments.
It "hurt like hell" to do so, but it was necessary to establish experiential-'preludes' to the present discussion - to allow folks close to Neuroscience to experience the Same-Stuff, first-hand, so that they can find their ways through-it, and have reason to apply the understanding they posses to the understanding of this stuff.
All experientially-delimited-environments generate the 'Same-Stuff'.
There exists no 'privileged' experiential-environment.
The 'sense' that individuals have that the familiar-stuff within their own experiential-environment constitutes 'truth' is an illusion, born of 'blindly'-automated TD E/I-minimization driven by 'coerced-consensus', and 'assertion' of 'truth' with respect to such is devoid of meaning.
All Hope for Humanity exists in coming-to-terms-with the 'blindly'-automated TD E/I-minimization dynamics which impose the illusion of 'truth' within folks' experience, rising-above such illusory stuff, and 'moving toward' that which exists beyond experience. [Think before reacting.]
Understanding the manner in which nervous systems process-information via 'blindly'-automated TD E/I-minimization [establishment of "biological mass" [microscopic trophic modifications] within the neural topology with respect to such] is the 'passageway' to that which exists beyond experience.
Go 'through-it', 'move toward' Truth.
Go 'through-it', more, 'move toward' Truth, more
Reiterate.
Truth Exists beyond experience, but can be 'moved toward' by just going beyond experience.
But 'just-going' beyond experience' leads one into the "zone of randomness" [ZoR; AoK, Ap4], unprotected.
Understanding the manner in which nervous systems process-information via 'blindly'-automated TD E/I-minimization enables 'going' beyond experience, protected with respect to one's own encounters with the ZoR.
There's no 'magic' in-it.
Understanding the manner in which nervous systems process-information via 'blindly'-automated TD E/I-minimization 'turns-off' the 'blind'-automation - allows one to recognize the information-processing functionality of this or that formerly-'scary' stuff inherent in nervous systems' innate functioning, with the result that, rather than being 'coerced', via 'blindly'-automated nervous system functioning, into this or that 'blindly'-automated behavioral manifestation - rather than Killing, for instance - one can understand the TD E/I-differential[s] inherent, and work things out on the basis of such understanding, seeking TD E/I-minimization routes that are not necessarily predetermined within experience, giving, as well as receiving, such, without Prejudice with respect to that which they constitute - without 'banning' them just because they are not, yet, within experience.
The understanding 'removes' 'the Beast', Abstract Ignorance, and all that it, formerly, 'blindly' and automatically Dictated within behavior.
The 'need' to 'blindly' and automatically do anything derives in Ignorance.
An understanding of the manner in which nervous systems process-information via 'blindly'-automated TD E/I-minimization does not, 'magically' eliminate Ignorance.
It 'just' allows folks to See, clearly, that the thing to do with Ignorance is to replace it with Understanding, and how to go about achieving such, and the energy-consumption costs inherent in doing such, and, most of all, what all the 'scary' stuff, that, absent the understanding, would, 'blindly' and automatically, 'drive' one to do Savage things, actually is.
>From there, the understanding 'opens the door' to the Joy of Discovery of that which is not [yet] in experience.
Literally.
There's no 'magic' in-it, but the more the understanding is incorporated within nervous systems, the more the Prosperity of Humanity will accelerate - simply be-cause the Waste inherent in Savagery, beginning with stuff like toe costs of War, will become commensurately-diminished.
The only 'cost' inherent is in acquiring the understanding, and Acknowledging its stuff within all people, everywhere.
Which is just giving folks TD E/I-minimization [fostering such within their experience].
Which is just, 'Loving'-them.
