Answer: Many will find it hard to believe, but Israel had a King before
Saul. He was the son of one of the Judges: Gideon.
The story is related in the eighth and ninth chapter of the Book of
Judges. "And Gideon had threescore and ten sons...And his concubine that was
in Shechem, she also bare him a son, whose name he called Abimelech."
(Judges 8:30-3)
Then Abimelech is made king of at Shechem: "And all the men of Shechem
gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech
King, by the plain of the pillar that was Shechem." (Judges 9:6)

Yes, if this is in the "Chaotlic Encycopedia" [sic] then it was written by
jews.
Catholics know that Saul was an Israelite, not a jew.
